Did you work for one of the large employers (or even the small ones) in the Meadows? The ROF, Jardines, Clifton Pit and thePower Station to mention but a few. Get in touch at the usual email addresses and let us know.
One of the sites that dominated the sky line of the Meadows for many years was the North Wilford power station chimneys, one large one and six small ones. Then in 1964 a new, larger chimney was built.

| Lesley Donald in Albany, Western Australia has sent in this photograph, taken on the 4th May 1964. It shows the big chimney during construction. Lesley's father, Gerald ( Ged ) Nutter worked at the power station from 1953 until they emigrated to Australia in 1967. Gerald started as a scaffolder and rigger and finished as a chargehand. |

| This picture is from our family collection and shows my grandmother, Florence Ellis second left and her sister, Kate Statham standing to the right of her. This picture is probably at one of the large agricultural shows such as Newark.
Thanks to dad's cousin, Pat, for telling me some of the names of the other women in the picture. They are, after Kate Statham, Mrs Merry, Rosie Burkett, unknown, unknown, Alice Smith and unknown. Again, if you know any of the other people in the picture please let me know at the usual email address. Thanks also to Doug and Maureen Edwards for telling me that the lady next to the end on the right is Maureen's mother, Alice Smith. They have also told me that the picture was taken at Silverstone Race Track. |

| Lesley Donald tells us
"This photo was taken at my dad's farewell presentation when he left there in 1967 to go to Oz. He was given a beautiful watch, which is now in the possession of my brother, and my mam received a large box of chocolates.
The only person I can name on this picture is Stan ROBERTS who has his hand on the arm of the man with a camera around his neck." |
William Hands sent in this picture of his father being inspected by the King at ROF Nottingham |
