AAt long last I have got round to creating the Family History section of the web site. As with all family histories it will be an ongoing project with occasional additions and alterations as my research progresses.
My interest in family history started when I wanted to find out more about my grandfather James's war medals. They were two World War 1 campaign medals, the British War Medal and the Victory Medals. There were no ribbons with them, they were lost many years ago when we played with the medals as kids.
The first thing I did was to buy new ribbons so that I could display the medals. I always assumed, without any real reasoning, that my grandfather would have enrolled in a local regiment so it came as a surprise to find engraved around the rim "1917 PTE J. ELLIS R.GUERNSEY L I".

Why had James enlisted in a regiment based so far away from his home town of Nottingham? As far as we knew he had no connections with the Channel Islands.
Over the years I have managed to track James's war service and solve the mystery of how he came to be in Guernsey.
But now I wanted to find out more.............
Almost 10 years later, I have traced the Ellis family back to the early 1700s and the Cheetham family (My grandmother's ancestors.) back to the late 1600s. Along the way I have discovered many ancestors, living mostly ordinary lives. Soldiers, farmers, bootmakers, bakers, housewives and schoolchildren. Up to now I have found no skeletons in the cupboard........although I keep hoping.
As with most family histories I have started with myself and worked my way back. Everyone younger than my generation has been privatised so that their details can not be seen, as have any living ancestors who wish to remain anonymous.I will add more information as I work my way through my family history.
