Schools1

Can you remember your days at school? They were supposed to be the best days of your life. If you have any stories or photographs why not let us know. If there are any teachers from the old Meadows that remember either me, my brother, Martin or my sister, Angela, then please get in touch. You can email me at the usual addresses. If anyone thinks they might recognise anyone and would like to see a larger version of the photograph concerned please contact me and I will email a copy as soon as I can

Martin Mitchell has sent this picture of Bosworth Road Girls School from 1928. His grandmother Violet Mitchell (nee Webb) is on the back row in the centre wearing the tie.
This is one of our family photos and shows a class from Queen's Walk School. Ida Bennett, or Scott as she was then, is sixth from left in the third row up. The picture was taken in about 1924 when Ida was six.
A young Barbara Corthorn, my mother, aged 11, in July of 1949, practicing in Bosworth School hall for the performance in front of the Princess Elizabeth for the 500th anniversary of Nottingham's charter. The event took place on the 28th July 1949 on the Forest Recreation Ground and involved children from many schools throughout Nottingham. Other events took place in the Market Square Lesley Donald has sent in this picture of her brother, Maurice, at Colgate Road School in about 1961. Maurice is the one sitting down on the right.
This picture from our family collection shows Angela Bennett at Bosworth Road School. Angela is on the second row 8th from left. The picture was taken about 1951/52. Thanks to Steve Payne for sending in this photo of some of the members of the Bosworth football team. They are, from left to right: Paul Bond, Steve Payne and Paul Buxton. The teacher in charge of the football team was Mr Miller. In the background is the school playground, the Nursery Garden and on the right hand side part of the old youth club can just be seen. Steve says the the photograph was taken about 1968/69.
Another photo from our family collection. This one shows my brother, Martin, second left. This photograph was taken about 1964/65 at Bosworth  Road School. I think that it is Mark (Tank) Faulkner on the left and the Wooley twins on the right. This photograph also shows Martin, taken a year after the previous one. Martin is on the left, with Michelle Purdey on the far right and her sister, Martine next to her. Unfortunately we can't remember the name of the lad standing next to Martin. If you know who he is please let us know.
Joyce Tyson has sent in this picture of her and the Mundella girls sports day in 1947.

This was at the girls sports day - Hockey dribbling!! For some reason perhaps aftermath of the floods we went to a sports  ground elsewhere. Think it was Ladybay perhaps near the Boots sports  ground. See the railway in the background 4 teams starting from left. I remember quite a few names Joyce Coupe (myself) at front others in team sorry forgot names team 2nd from left Jean Gascoigne, Pat Buttery (blonde hair) Rosemary Middleton 3rd from left Shirley Sumner. Pauline Ash, Barbara Mallett 4th from left Bridgit Spring, Pauline Nall, Shirley Ashmore I think the man on the right was a woodwork or Geography Teacher.Does anyone know the name of the teacher in the photograph or his subject? Does anyone know where the photo was taken and why there?

This school photograph was sent in by Debbie Butler and shows her brother, Tommy Lupton, sitting in the reading corner at the old Welbeck School. Tommy is sitting 4th left .
Debbie has also sent in this photograph of brother, Tommy in the Welbeck School cricket team. If you know any of the children in the two Welbeck photographs let me know at the usual address. Tommy is 4th left in the back row.

Me at Bosworth road Infants School, on the left aged 5. I can only remember two of the kids in this photo. Paul Mason on the far right and next to him Shirley Bond Me again, second left, aged 7 just before "moving up" to the juniors. The only name I remember in this photo is Michael Bell sat at the far right.

A photograph sent in by Dave Smith shows him sitting second left in the front row. This is Bosworth Road School about 1961. Does anyone know of the other children in the photograph?

An email on the Schools2 page sent in by Lesley in Australia has identified several individuals in this picture.

This photograph shows Dave Smith sitting on the left at Bosworth Road School. Sat next to David is Barry Coombes. This looks as though it's taken a couple of years later in the infants class.
