Pubs

It seemed to me when I was a kid that there was a pub or a "beer off" on nearly every street corner, and some in between. Here are a few photos of my grandfather outside the Crocus Inn with some of his friends just after the war. I think it may have been the pub darts team.

The picture of them sat round the table is, we think, the same darts team outside the White Hart at Lenton. Although not a Meadows pub the men in the picture almost certainly were from the Meadows.

p 1 1. Joseph Corthorn and friends outside the Crocus    Inn.

2. We think this is the Crocus Inn darts team. Joseph Corthorn is 3rd from the right.

3. Again, we think this is the Crocus Inn darts team outside the White Hart in Lenton. Joseph Corthorn is wearing the hat.

If you think you know any of the people in the above photographs or have any of your own that were taken outside or inside Meadows pubs why not send them in and I'll put them on this page. Send to the usual email addresses or the address on the home page.

Mum emailed to tell me that the man in pictures 1 and 2 with the white shirt and waistcoat was Mr Lofthouse. He was the landlord of the Crocus Inn. At the far left in picture 2 is Jack Winterbottom, who mum says was also nicknamed "Frosty"and "Cold Arse."

Dawn Hegarty in Northern Ireland sent me the photograph below of her father and some of his customers ready to go on a pub outing to Derbyshire in the mid 50's. Do you remember any of the men in the photograph?

Did the women customers have their own outings?

pub outing

My Father Ted O'Brien was the 'Landlord' of the Navigation Inn at Castle Lock from 1953-1965. I recently found this photo taken I think in the mid 50's of some of the locals on a bus trip to Derbyshire.

A few names spring to mind, My Father third from the left centre, the former landlord Tom Hart far right Tommy Hallam, Les Kind, Bill Hutchinson, Barry Houghton, Dennis Woods, Gordon Bettison, Dennis Travers, Danny? Butch? Bill?

Hope this jogs a memory somewhere.
