| Another unknown soldier | This postcard was also sent to Stella Whitlock from a chap called Jack. From the way the postcard is written I don't think Jack is a relative of Stella's . All these lads are grooms according to the writing on the back. There is a full transcript at the bottom of the page. |

Dear Stella, I haven't got any time to write you a letter but I thought you would like a card just as well.
This is one taken when we were on the march. I have put a X over my head. We went to Salisbury on Sunday and Edie sent a cake to us today.
Did you get my last card alright. We are off home on Sat. We have had a fine old time of it as yet and I hope you are getting on alright.
Don't write back here as there won't be much time. We had our photos taken outside the tent. I will send you one when we get them.
So goodbye with love from your loving brother Fred X
The "Grooms" postcard
Dear Stella, thanks for letter. I am sorry I shan't be able to see you at Christmas. I hope I shall have fortnight at home then. How are you getting on now I must really try to come and see you if you will allow me to.
What do you think of our groom's photo. Don't you think Stella I am entitled to one of yours.
It is really cold here now not like warm old Batley.
Remember Me to H. Best Love Jack X
Both these postcards were posted to Miss Stella Whitlock dairymaid Nevill Court Tunbridge Wells Kent
I will add more postcards to this gallery as I acquire them as well as any information about the soldiers that I can research.
